Ovoid Wicker Basket

Yesterday hubby & I left our house at 4:30 a.m. and headed to Webster, Florida. Webster is a dot on the map, seemingly in the middle of nowhere, but every Monday they host the biggest and oldest flea market in the state of Florida. It takes us about an hour and a half to get there but it is well worth the trip

I have a thing for old, wicker baskets.
I love the size of this basket. It stands 18" tall, 27" if you count the handle.

 

I bought the sunflowers last week at the Dollar Tree for a project I am working on.

I bought a few things but this wicker basket was my favorite find. It has an odd shape. Is it ovoid? 

This is the first thing I saw that I wanted but the last thing I bought.
I had to wait for the price to drop.

I've shown it next to a bird bath so you can see how tall it is.
Notice I have no grass. If you want a beautiful lawn in Florida it costs a lot of money. First, you have to lay sod then water a lot. I would rather spend my money on wicker baskets, etc... heehee

Birdie Watering Can

 I have been spinning my wheels all week, not accomplishing much, so today I thought I would just officially give in and goof off by decorating this old watering can. I bought this a while back pretty cheap because the insides were really rusty. (Actually, the worst I have ever seen.)
Sorry I didn't take "before" photos but I think we all know what a watering can looks like. heehee

The first thing I had to do was scrape the rust chunks out of the inside. Then I put some watered down acrylic paint on the inside to "white wash" "blue wash" the insides. This was easy, but messy.
On the inside I used Bird Song Blue satin acrylic (watered down). Then I sprayed the outside with Krylon gloss Blue Ocean Breeze. I didn't like the gloss look so I went over most of the body with the Bird Song Blue that I really love.

With this project in mind, I have been looking on the internet for some really neat bird pictures to download. Lo and behold, I found an awesome booklet I already had in a stack of books right in front of my nose.
I made some copies and ripped out some images.

I decoupaged them on. Real easy. 

Then I thought, why not add a bird nest? It isn't glued on yet so it might not stay.

It is kind of cute though.
The little name plate on the can reads "HAWS".

This is the back. And the same bird's nest that I had on the handle. Remember, it isn't glued down yet.

When I'm sure I'm done I will add one or two coats of poly.

  I almost forgot!
Before I spray painted I taped off the name on the front of the watering can. I saw the pucker but it just didn't register.
Also, I nixed the bird nest and opted for a strand of spanish moss and a bird.

Art Deco Vanity Section Rescued

This is one project I should have walked away from, but the $3.00 price tag suckered me in. And besides, once in awhile I like a REAL challenge.

This is a section of an Art Deco vanity. As you can see it was badly neglected. It is all scratched up and pieces of veneer are missing in several places.

 But, with a little glue and some clamps and weights it can look as good as new.
Well, it can look "Shabby Chic". hehe

Ice Cream Cylinder/Vase

Last Sunday my husband and I stopped at a yard sale and I bought 2 things. A necklace that had a pendant with the number "48" and a tall aluminum cylinder. At the time, I didn't know what the cylinder was but I knew instantly what I wanted to do with it.



After I studied on it for awhile I figured out the cylinder was the insides of an old ice cream maker. It stands about 12" tall and near the top is a "fill line".

I had an old band of burlap that I glued around the middle. I added twine, a button, an old key, and the necklace I had purchased at the sale.



I added some silk hydrangeas I had on hand.



At the sale the necklace was priced at $1.00 but there was no price on the cylinder. When I asked the lady how much it was she said "Oh, you can just have that old thing".
Lucky for me she doesn't "get it". hehe

I'm pretty happy with the results and it was real quick and easy to put together.

Art Angels in Orlando 2nd Anniversary

My friend Kiki and I went to the Art Angels in Orlando this past Tuesday to their 2nd anniversary celebration.
We were told to look for a tree decorated with doilies, and sure enough, here it is.
Karen Sue from http://suebees-karensue.blogspot.com/ did a good job decorating it.

We have all met through blogging and they were set up across from me at The Fancy Flea in Lakeland, Florida a couple of weeks ago.

Clarins Paris Display Case

I found this pair of Clarins Paris lucite display cases last Saturday at an estate sale.

I've been looking for that "something special" to display minitaure perfume bottles that I've collected over the years.
Each case stands about 20" tall and is about 10" wide. Each has one shelf in the middle and one on the bottom, the back is completely open. 

My dilemma: I think I might cover up the Clarins Paris with script decoupage. I can't make up my mind. What do you think?linking towww.fadedcharmcottage.blogspot.com

This booth was spectacular.

Notice the vintage surveyor pole to the left of the old bathing suit. The swim suit was a real crowd pleaser.
